Community Infrastructure Update
TThe AMCS Board is diligently reviewing options to make the best use of a $200,000.00 RDOS grant for a proposed Community Gathering Centre. It’s clear that our community misses the Summit Centre* that previously provided a year-round space for various events and gatherings. In addition, a 2023 survey of all residents revealed that 71.79% of respondents thought that the JSMP should be used as “a location for community and family events and gatherings”. As such, the community Project Working Group has been gathering extensive information and quotes for a 1200 sq/ft building to be located just west of the upper parking lot at JSMP. To complete the project, we are exploring opportunities for additional funding needed to supplement the RDOS grant.
Future potential infrastructure opportunities identified in the survey and brought forward by residents include a Dog Run Park and Pickleball Courts. Please contact Dean Stevenson at deans@amcsbc.ca if interested in serving on a committee to determine the feasibility of these opportunities.
*The building located at the corner of Highway 3 and Peregrine Drive was originally the sales centre for Regal Ridge. For several years, it was rented to the AMCS for gatherings. Since 2020, the building has not been available to the community, and it is not an option going forward.
Pond News
Many residents have indicated that they would like the water level of the pond adjacent to the Jamie Soule Memorial Park maintained at a higher level. Beginning this year, the AMCS will keep the pond’s water level as high as practicable throughout late spring and summer.
